We now have a rewarding opportunity available for a Specialist Family Violence Refuge Practitioner to join our team in Shepparton and begin helping vulnerable community members transition from refuge into safe accommodation.

How You’ll Make a Difference:

As our next Specialist Family Violence Refuge Practitioner, you’ll be an integral part of a 24/7 crisis response to victim-survivors in VincentCare’s Marian Community. We operate on a ‘no wrong door’ approach, offering short-term intensive case management that primarily focuses on addressing immediate safety and recovery needs.

You’ll contribute to a 24/7 on-call roster, supporting clients while they are in crisis accommodation and assisting them in transitioning to permanent accommodation. You’ll also hold a complex caseload, providing targeted and immediate support to clients who require assistance for domestic and family violence.

Our main catchment areas encompass City of Greater Shepparton, Moira and Strathbogie, with after-hours catchments extending out to Mitchell and Murrundindi.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Supporting the development of case plan goals that ensure transition from refuge into safe, affordable, and sustainable housing
  • Providing intensive crisis case management to victim-survivors of domestic and family violence in refuge
  • Contributing to an after-hours on-call roster
  • Promoting an in-depth understanding of the gendered nature of family violence, intersectionality in family violence, and the nature, dynamics, and impact of family violence across a range of familial relationships
  • Ensuring compliance with all legislative and regulatory frameworks

What You’ll Bring to the Team:

To be considered for this position, you will need to hold a tertiary qualification in Social Work, or other equivalent qualifications/experience as outlined in Recommendation 209

Critical to your continued success in this position will be your genuine passion for the work itself. Your warm and empathetic demeanour will be key to ensuring clients feel comfortable while you provide the vital services they need to forge pathways out of violent relationships.

You should also have demonstrated experience in a similar role that saw you providing intensive case management and support to victim-survivors of domestic and family violence.
